Frederic Kanoute, talking on the BBC World Football Programme on Friday 16 May, comes to a very clear conclusion on whether any EURO 2020 games should be played in Israel. “… it’s not in my view a good decision to… legitimise … by organising big events there [Israel] and in a way giving credit to what’s happening” Then it’s left to the listener to think about “what’s happening”! Kanoute knows but not every BBC listener knows.
He adds: “Before being footballers we are citizens first…….we can’t put our principles away”. FIFA and UEFA need to think about this.
Later in the programme there is a reference to the “racist fans of Beitar Jerusalem” and that a second Beitar team is being established because of that racism. What the programme does not say is that the intended ground for any EURO 2020 games is Beitar’s home ground.
