Three days ahead of Puma’s annual shareholders meeting, activists held a successful action by contacting the Puma Board of Directors in three ways (the Covid pandemic meant physical action could not be undertaken):
- Social Media Storm: a twitter storm gave the following message: Israeli settlements force Palestinian families from their homes, crowd Palestinians in refugee camps and limit access to clean water & healthcare. I will #BoycottPuma until @Puma ends its complicity. I won’t be part of #PumaFam.
- Email Jam: A special form was used to send a message urging Puma to stop supporting illegal Israeli settlements.
- Phone-in: Activists called Puma headquarters in Germany to mention outline their objections to Puma’s sponsorship of the Israeli FA and its activities in the Occupied Palestinian Territories.
Sports teams are dropping Puma sponsorship and pledging not to join the #PumaFam until Puma ends its complicity in Israel’s violations of Palestinian rights.
The success of this action was revealed by a Puma attorney. He said that A Puma attorney has said that our calls to boycott Puma are making their lives “miserable.”
