Israeli armed forces invade two East Jerusalem clubs

On 2 May 2019 around midday a large Israeli Border Policed Force broke into the Shu’fat Camp sports club in the northern part of annexed East Jerusalem. This was a special occasion for the club as the club and its guests were inaugurating the newly renovated football pitch.

The force threatened the attendees – scaring women and children by aggressively tearing down Palestinian flags and threatening to make arrests. This is not the first time this has happened.

Separately the Israeli forces had handed an order to the administration of the club to stop all renovations and maintenance work on the club’s facilities, including a multi-sports hall. No valid reason was given. Shu’fat is de-facto under Israeli control

Subsequently, on 10 May 2019 and armed Israeli force broke into Burj Al Laqlac club in East Jerusalem and dismantled the “Ramadan lantern” that the club had erected to celebrate the holy month.

Such threatening incursions by Israeli forces are totally unacceptable and we call on FIFA to demand from the Israeli authorities that no more incidents occur.
