Text of the letter sent to FIFA Council members ON 6 March 2018:
RED CARD ISRAELI RACISM
15 -16 March 2018 FIFA Council meeting
This letter is being sent to all FIFA Council members.
We are concerned about the continued repression of Palestinian football by Israel and the apparent lack of FIFA procedures to resolve the problems.
In our letter of 23 October 2017 we highlighted recent examples of this repression:
- obstruction of the movement of Palestinian players
- interference with the Palestinian Cup Final
- recruitment of informers
- obstruction of equipment imports to Palestine
Since then artificial pitch material was delivered to the Palestinian FA on 29 December 2017 after having been impounded by the Israelis for nine months – a totally unjustifiable delay.
At its last Council meeting FIFA resolved to “continue to facilitate the movement of players, officials and football equipment in, out of, and within Palestine”. The Israel Palestine Monitoring Committee was established in 2015 with that objective but was disbanded at the last Council meeting. Involvement by FIFA is still needed.
We urge you to announce what procedures FIFA will adopt to support Palestinian football at the 15 – 16 March 2018 Council meeting.
Sadly we must report the death of a young Palestinian footballer. On 30th January 2018 Laith Abu Naim was walking to practice after school when he became embroiled in a stone throwing group of youths facing Israeli soldiers. Laith was killed with a single shot to the forehead. Why instant death should be the punishment for stone throwing only the Israelis know.
We call on FIFA to advise Israeli authorities of football’s condemnation of this random killing.
The last Council meeting discussed the appeals of the Palestinian FA against FIFA’s recent actions with respect to settlement clubs to the Court of Arbitration in Sport. A Hearing has been announced for 6-7 March 2018 so we imagine that an Arbitral Award would be most likely in May 2018.
