Israeli logos on Premiership hoardings and shirts? No thanks!!

Please sign a petition launched by Friends of Al Aqsa expressing “deep concern over recent discussions regarding sponsorship between Liverpool Football Club, and the Israeli Tourism Minister Yariv Levin”.  http://www.foa.org.uk/petition/stop-israel-from-sponsoring-liverpool-football-club/?signup=1

Apparently Liverpool’s director of international business development Jonathan Kane was pictured with Israel’s tourism minister Yariv Levin at the World Travel Market fair in London.   The Ynet agency jumped to the  conclusion that Israeli logos “may appear on Liverpool soccer kits” and gave the impression that serious discussions were about to take place.  http://www.ynetnews.com/articles/0,7340,L-4876784,00.html

However, club officials were reported in the Liverpool ECHO to be “baffled by [this] speculation”.

http://www.liverpoolecho.co.uk/sport/football/football-news/reports-linking-liverpool-israel-sponsorship-12160855.

The newspaper indicated that Levin met with “dozens” of potential partners and that “it went no further than that”.

WE THINK THAT THERE IS NO SMOKE WITHOUT FIRE.  It is highly likely that Israel will try to get publicity in the football world.  The Ynet story could simply have arisen from a private initiative of a couple of Liverpool directors and/or the local MP Louise Ellman. But there is a danger that it might further.  Such initiatives must be stopped!  Please sign the FOA petition.
