An ugly brawl erupted on the soccer pitch on Tuesday [26 April] at the end of a league match between Maccabi Tel Aviv and Bnei Sakhnin, which is the most successful Palestinian club in Israel. It followed a bad-tempered encounter between the tsides the previous week for a cup semi-final. 927mag comments that “Compared to the overt, oft-condemned and penalized racism of Beitar Jerusalem, Maccabi Tel Aviv’s racism is more mainstream. That makes it more dangerous”. Further disturbances were reported at a Beitar Jerusalem game against Bnei Sakhnin a week later when firecrackers and smoke bombs were thrown onto the field by Beitar fans. See http://www.timesofisrael.com/beitar-fans-arrested-in-fracas-after-drubbing-by-arab-club/.
These incidents only go to show yet again how the Israeli FA is failing to control racism in Israeli football, and so should be excluded from international competition until it sorts itself out.
