RCIR reminds UEFA that games in Jerusalem are not acceptable

The campaign has written to the UEFA Executive Committee members as follows:

Venue for UEFA Women’s Under 19 finals in Israel

On the 24th February we wrote to Mr Platini, copied to all members of the Executive Committee, expressing our detailed concerns about the award of the UEFA Women’s Under 19 finals 2015 to Israel.

In that letter we highlighted that if any of these matches were located at the Teddy Kollek Stadium in West Jerusalem UEFA would once again be guilty of arranging prestige fixtures in internationality disputed territory. No European nation recognises Israeli sovereignty over West Jerusalem.  Also matches in Jerusalem directly promote the illegal annexation of the old city of East Jerusalem into Israel.  Therefore UEFA would be taking a political position, which is surely not the intention of member associations.

Furthermore, that stadium is the home of the infamous and extremely racist !La Familia” fans.  Palestinians would be foolish to attend any matches there.  So there is de-facto segregation, contrary to the UEFA Statutes

We were staggered to note that UEFA continued to ignore these concerns only this week for the match between Belgium and Israel in the EURO 2016 Qualifying round.

This prompts us to renew our call to you to ensure that none of the matches for the forthcoming Women’s Under 19 competition are played in Jerusalem.
